Stephan Sonnenberg

Stephan is a Consultant with Triad. Based geographically in South Asia, Stephan is an educator, facilitator and researcher. Most recently, he is focused on Buddhist and Himalayan customary legal norms and traditional forms of dispute resolution. He sees this newest area of study as a continuation of his longstanding focus on protracted conflict, sustainable development, and human rights.

Stephan is an expert on experiential forms of adult education, enabling individuals to build their skill and knowledge from the ground up. He has taught the Negotiation Workshop at Harvard Law School, as well as numerous other seminars or lecture courses at both the graduate as well as the undergraduate levels. Stephan has been in academia for over a decade, teaching -- among other places -- at Harvard and Stanford Law Schools, as well as the Juridicum at the University of Vienna. Since 2007, he has supervised over 25 major advocacy or advising projects, ranging from the design of a restorative juvenile justice process grounded in Thai customary legal norms, to a project documenting traditional Turkish grieving ceremonies that lays the groundwork for a transitional justice strategy to help families cope with the 'disappearance' of their relatives.

Stephan has also consulted with a range of clients, including technology and biotechnology firms, educational institutions, law firms, international organizations, and non-profit groups, on various conflict management topics, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, as well as communications coaching and organizational systems design.

He holds degrees from Harvard Law School, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, Sciences-Po Paris, and Brown University.
